Video: Traditional Dances at the Building Dedication
Building dedications are big events here. The Arop people held a day-long celebration to dedicate two new buildings here at the Translation Centre. A visiting man from the highlands turned himself into a “mud man” for the procession and celebration. We sang, heard speeches, and prayed. Then we ate a meal of rice, fish, vegetables, and saksak, a gelatin made from a sago palm. Arop drummers sang one of their native songs afterwards.
