By the time Steve had turned 20, he had walked the Great Wall of China, flown over the Amazon, and traveled by rail through Spain. Valuing the Bible as good news from God since childhood, and knowing it hasn’t yet been translated for hundreds of languages in the world, he dreamed of becoming a Bible translator. He graduated with a linguistics degree from Michigan State University in 1987.

They married in 1988. The mission field wouldn’t come until much later, when they joined Wycliffe Bible Translators in 2001.
